Evangelism - It's a Lifestyle

Updated: Jan 16, 2022

What are you passionate about? A few years ago, I was teasing a coworker who started a "coffee club" about her passion for coffee when the Counselor asked me, "What are you passionate about? I hesitated for a minute to think about it, and then I said, "I'm passionate about Jesus and spreading the Gospel."

Later I had a chance to sit down with the coworker and we had a great conversation. She told me how she once had a student who she had disciplined during the day, and the child went home and died in a bicycle accident that night. She never had a chance to end his day on a positive note. She also shared that she had a cousin she meant to call, but her cousin was killed before she got a chance to make that call. Her stories reminded me that our days are short and not promised to us. It made evangelism much more relevant.

Christ is coming back! Have you really considered what will happen to those without Christ as their LORD and Savior? Does Bible prophecy and the book of Revelation seem like far-fetched stories for the distant future. Evangelism is not just about saving souls so they can experience eternal life, but it's about faith in Jesus to live meaningful lives right now.

Evangelism is about having a passion for souls everyday. It involves crying out to God for a world full of souls that are lost without Him. Evangelism is about snatching our families, our neighbors, our friends, our coworkers and even strangers from the brink of a hell that is very real. It's about giving others a present HOPE and a future destination.

You may never have a large crowd like Billy Graham, a pulpit, or a satellite congregation, but you can share the gospel with somebody. The lifestyle of an evangelist involves one-on-one contact with people seeking answers about life. It entails actively seeking opportunities in everyday encounters. It includes asking God for witnessing moments, praying for the lost, and interceding for souls. There's a lot at stake. The lifestyle of an evangelist is no joke, it's a serious matter. In the blink of an eye, the person sitting next to you may be gone - today is the day of salvation. Did they know Jesus as LORD and Savior?

Perhaps some of you used to have a passion for souls and it was squashed by the circumstances of life or maybe even by a person. Likely it was just Satan's distraction to hinder you from doing the one thing he fears the most - setting the captives free by the redeeming blood of Jesus Christ. Oh yeah, he hates that.

What are you going to do about it? Are you just going to pout and let your passion wan. God doesn't want you to do that. Today He is calling you to stir up your gift again. In this season of fear and anxiety about the coronavirus and the protests going on about the injustices in the world, the harvest is great. God is tilling the land waiting for you to reignite your passion for the lost. It's time to set the world on fire. It's time to open your mouth. It's time to be about the Father's business again. He's waiting for you - laborer. Go make disciples!
